Important! New Rules as of December 1, 2010
As of December 1, 2010, there is a new state law that changes when individuals and families can purchase their own (non-group) health insurance. Prior to this date, individuals are allowed to purchase health insurance at any point during the year. As of December 1, 2010, individual (non-group) policies can only be purchased during the designated open enrollment periods:
January 1-February 15, 2011
July 1-August 15, 2011
You may only buy health insurance outside of these enrollment periods if you:
• Lost health coverage within the
last 63 days because you:
o Became ineligible for an employer’s plan and do not qualify for another employer’s plan or a government-subsidized plan.
o Became ineligible for your government-subsidized plan and do not have other coverage.
o Exhausted all of your COBRA benefits.
